The cooks arrived early to set up and begin cooking. The event began around 11:30 a.m. and the crowd came out to sample some of the area's best chili and gumbo. Those who attended the event tasted samples from the teams and voted on their favorites while a panel of judges made the final decision.
After about four and a half hours of tasting and judging, owner John Neal and assistant Diana Pennington announced the winners.
