Another study made by Health.com, shows that children who are obese have a 65 percent more likely chance of being bullied than normal rate children.
Could sending a child to work out two times a week to work out significantly decrease the rates of obese children growing into obese adults? Could it give a child a less likely chance of being bullied and boost his/her self esteem?
Local Fitness instructors believe they can answer yes to the above questions as they strive to incorporate fitness into the daily lives of children between the ages of 6 and 15.
Empower Fit Kids (EFK) is a program that encompasses the definition of a fun workout. Founder of EFK, Marshall Williams, and his partner ,Chad Pittman, began Empower Fit Kids after seeing a lack of physical education in children ages 6 to 15.
Instead of limiting children to unorganized recess and play time like seen in public schools, the two decided to create a program of basic human movement patterns that uses similar principles of a Cross-fit workout. To kick off the program, Williams and Pittman began speaking with parents to see if and who would be interested in signing their children up for a healthier life style.
“I have a passion for kids, and I think that teaching them proper fitness habits while they are young, that will benefit them in the future is what motivates me to want to work with them,” says Williams.
According to Pittman, incorporating basic movement patterns such as push, pull, squat, carry, and a level change is what makes the workouts easy for the children to understand. Adding a few fitness games to each workout keeps class fun, and with a length 30 minutes for each class, it’s easy to keep the attention of the children as well.
Empower Fit Kids is designed to give children confidence, high self-esteem, and healthy lifestyle. Williams and Pittman have plans to make sure that each child leaves their program with each of those goals accomplished.
