Hattiesburg's Oddfellow Gallery along with Festival South teamed together to host Jeremy Thomley's art exhibit: ANTHEM.
Thomley's exhibit brought awareness of Cystic Fibrosis to Hattiesburg. During the course of the exhibit the guests were able to connect with the sculptures emotionally by wearing Silent Storm headphones. In the headphones you had the option of hearing the narrative documentary of the artist while watching the on screen film of Jeremy's journey. Guests also had the option of listening to music handpicked by the artist while feeling and looking at the sculptures.
Jeremy and all of his work have a very special connection. At a young age he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, which is a lung disease that is harmful to the lungs and the digestive system. This is where the inspiration for the show came from, his adventures battling the disease.
"For him it's all about breathing, it really is.." says close friend Maria.
All of Jeremy's sculptures represented him and his battle with Cystic Fibrosis in some way. There were sculptures of lungs and rib cages made of steel, which is used to capture and protect the most precious thing in life to him, breathing.
Jeremy is also a rock climber. The rock climbing signifies the milestones he has overcome and continues to overcome. "It's just another fight, just another chapter .." he says
This past exhibit marked the first time all of Jeremy's pieces have been in the same room together. He states that '"Anthem' is a body of sculpture- a body of work."
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited life threatening disease. It is estimated that 70,000 people have CF worldwide and the median projected life span is just above 40.
To this day Cystic Fibrosis still has no cure.
