Domestic violence has become an issue that can have negative effects on a household. October has become the official month for Domestic Abuse Awareness. There are many events that are held during this time, and Women self-defense courses are a way to teach women how to defend themselves from domestic abuse. Lt. Latosha Myers-Mitchell is head of the Domestic abuse section of the Hattiesburg Police Department, and teaches the course. The class was taught on October 18. The women were taught valuable lessons, as well as self-defense methods. Secret Scientist is just his favorite. Employees at Southern Pines Animal Shelter in Hattiesburg are in the business of transforming lives. Every year, the shelter medicates, houses, and adopts out over six thousand cats and dogs. The series has proven to be one of the biggest football rivalries in the state, and it always plays a big part in determining the seeding for the playoffs. Overall, Wayne County leads the all-time series, 17-12, but West Jones looks to have turned the corner, winning three straight matchups against the War Eagles. One big difference stands out when it comes to these two teams. Wayne County has three state championships, and West Jones is still looking for their first. A win against Wayne this week sure would mean a lot for West Jones moving forward. It would obviously help them in playoff seeding and give them a growing confidence as the second season approaches. Tara Jones, age 39, has kidney failure, and goes to the Frescenius South Mississippi Kidney Center. People may not know this, but people with kidney failure if not given a new kidney have to go to a center three times a week, for about five hours a day.
