Sharon Boddy of Yazoo County shares her gardening expertise, different types of flowers she plants and places where she go to get her flowers and soil. Boddy said she started gardening 8 years ago when she moved to Mississippi and found a hobby in gardening.
Boddy said she wanted to be a gardener since she was 9 years old. She said she started by helping her grandmother in her flower and vegetable garden.
"It's the beauty of a garden, I love the different colors of the flowers and picking the different types of flowers I want to plant," Boddy said. Boddy favorite flowers are lilies and annuls, where she grows plenty in her garden.
"The best time to plant flowers are around the spring time, a little after March and the rest of the spring up until the summer," Boddy said. When summer comes only thing a person has to do really is keep the plants nurtured.
Shannon Hill, a co-worker at Lowe's said that the best type of soil to use while planting is potting mix (better nutrition) and garden soil (for rain/ water). "The best way to keep grass out of the flowers is per merge, it target roots during the fall and winter; around October to the end of November," Hill said.
Hill said the soil to use to keep a nice looking yard is, St. Augustine, Centipede and Bermuda. "It is so much to put into a garden and to keep a garden looking nice, but it is a fun hobby and something to do on a down time," Hill said.
Boddy said, "It's more than just putting flowers out, you have to nurture it and keep it up. Many do not discuss gardening because they might find it to be boring and for old folks but it is fun and something to do."
