Local artist Ben Watts is currently working on a project for a church in Raleigh, Mississippi. Attorney Gene Taylor, a member of the church, asked Ben if he could make a statue of Jesus Christ for the church. As of right now, Ben is waiting on supplies that is being shipped to his studio to make the actual statue. Ben made a small statue as a replica. Ben says he wants to finish creating the actual statue around Thanksgiving.
Ben has made statues in the past. He made a statue of the late Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton for Columbia High School, Coach Dobie Holden for Pearl River Community College, Coach Bull Sullivan for East Mississippi Community College, an eagle for the University of Southern Mississippi, etc. During his off time around football season, he volunteers building props for Columbia High School's marching band.
