Jay Meeks, the owner of snow cone franchise Kona Ice, proves that with the right business model, anything is possible.
Although he was initially just an investor in the business, Meeks had to take the franchise over when his business party fell into bankruptcy. Meeks, a first time business owner, commented on the difficulties of selling snow cones during the winter months and said, “Financially, you have to do your business plan to reflect the slow down periods in December, January, and part of February.”
However, selling snow cones has its perks. Meeks made $20,000 during the month of October, which is an unlikely time of the year to sell frozen beverages. Despite the setbacks he has had, Meeks says, “We’re committed to the business, and I’m going to make it successful.”
