Shanquita Jones, a senior from Oxford, Mississippi, finds an escape from the world. Jones has been doing art her whole life, but has decided to take painting more serious, since the start of college. “My family pushed me into art classes, then they saw a little talent and pushed me even harder,” said Jones. Jones started her college career at Jones County Junior College, that is where she made up her mind, that she would make a living out of painting. “I took a class about figures,” said Jones. “That’s where I started painting people and paying close attention to their figure or shape.” Jones has become a feminist artist in her time as an artist. She looks for the work of other female artists, and finds liberation in her work for women. Jones has said that she intends to pay for the happiness, although money for her art makes it a lot easier to do something you love.
