Due to pop culture associating pageants with icons such as Miss Congeniality, Honey Boo Boo and the popular show Toddlers in Tiaras, the meaning of pageantry is often overlooked.
Arrielle Dale, a senior dance major at the University of Southern Mississippi, has competed in pageants since she was six years old. She believes that her involvement in pageants has made her the woman she is today.
“I like to say the 5 ‘Ps’ to the pageantry. Prior preparation prevents poor performance. It’s super corny but you have to wake up every day wanting it” said Dale.
Dale’s persistence and hard work has pushed her to compete in about 32 pageants including three Miss Mississippi pageants.
Throughout her pageant career, Dale has focused a lot of her time and effort on serving her community.
“The organization is not all about getting in a pretty dress or doing a talent or being on stage and promoting a crown. It’s more about service. It’s more about serving others” said Dale.
In June, Dale is competing for the title of Miss Mississippi 2015 and hopes to continue to Miss America 2015. As Dale wraps-up her pageant career, she has adopted St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as her platform.
While pageants are a big part of her life, Dale is excited for what the future holds and to share what pageantry has taught her with the world.
