The Elks Lodge celebrated their 49th annual anniversary with the announcement of King and Queen Elk XLIX during its annual Carnival Ball this past Saturday at the Hattiesburg Elks Lodge.
King and Queen were announced as King Elk XLIX, Dr. Kohn Charles Gillis, and Queen Elk XLIX, Christina Michelle Hatten Sumrall.
Mardi Gras was in the air as people drove along the lit driveway up to the lodge. A regally-lit large crown was atop the entrance and could be seen from across the Elks Lake. The foyer was draped in purple and green, painted alligators, crawfish and shrimp were all upon the walls and a pier complete with a fisherman was there for everyone to see. The Southern bayou theme was shining through.
George and Debbie Pollitz, who have both previously been crowned, enjoyed the party and let me tag along to snap a couple of photos.
